John VanLimbeek
John was born and raised in Fort Smith, NWT and his family moved to the Okanagan in 1985 where he graduated high school before attending college in Lethbridge and Castlegar.
John and his wife Becky have made Kamloops home since 1996 and now have 2 boys.
John developed an interest in the Financial Services Industry when he was still involved in the Forest Industry. During that time John had already committed to the CFP Certified Financial Planner Education Program.
John joined Abbott Wealth Management in 2007; in 2008 John earned his Branch Manager Certificate and in 2010 John completed the CFP Program. John is now a full partner of Abbott Wealth Management Inc. and is completely dedicated to his clients and the Abbott Wealth Management investment discipline.
John’s passion within our company is to create, implement, and monitor financial and retirement plans. John’s extreme attention to detail as well as his ability to take complex issues and make them understandable is appreciated by our clients.
John’s family is very important to him; he is very involved in our community taking his boys to Beavers, Kamloops Minor Ball and Soccer. The Financial Service Industry and our Customer Service is a passion for John that is clearly evident.
Toni Dumais
Armed with an Executive MBA from the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University and an Associate’s degree in Creative Writing from Capilano University, Toni Dumais’ professional journey is underpinned by a unique blend of business acumen and creative thinking. As a proud member of the Prophet River First Nation, Toni’s dedication to advocating for Indigenous leadership and equality forms the cornerstone of their values.
In various leadership capacities, including Chief Executive Officer at Kihew FabCo Ltd. and roles at Virtuous Executive Consulting, Toni’s mission extends far beyond conventional business roles. Their true passion lies in fostering positive change within Indigenous communities. Kihew stands as a platform dedicated to providing workforce development opportunities, while Virtuous Executive Consulting allows Toni to actively contribute to initiatives aligning with their commitment to Indigenous leadership, safety, and equality.
Toni’s overarching goal remains consistent — to bridge gaps, create workforce development opportunities, and foster economic prosperity within Indigenous communities. This fusion of education, advocacy, and professional dedication reflects their unwavering commitment to contribute meaningfully to both Indigenous and business communities in strategic and sustainable ways.
Beyond their professional roles, Toni Dumais has dedicated extensive effort to researching the Implementation Agreement, UNDRIP, and DRIPA. These initiatives hold profound significance for Indigenous communities, offering meaningful pathways to independence and prosperity. Toni’s advocacy for equitable inclusion in economic opportunities reflects a deep-seated commitment to creating positive and lasting impacts.
Valerie Askoty
Since assuming the role of Chief for Prophet River First Nation, Valerie Askoty has exhibited an unwavering commitment to the betterment of her community. In the face of formidable challenges, Chief Askoty has demonstrated remarkable resilience and dedication, steering the Nation toward progress, positivity and fostering improved communication among its members.
One of Chief Askoty’s notable achievements lies in her adept handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Leading the Chief & Council and collaborating with diligent staff, she maintained a proactive stance by regularly communicating with BC Health. Through transparent updates, she ensured that vital information about infection rates, vaccination initiatives, and safety measures reached every member. Under her astute leadership, Prophet River First Nation kept COVID-19 infections remarkably low, even as other First Nations across Canada grappled with alarming spikes.
Her hands-on approach extended to checking on staff and members, reflecting her unwavering commitment to their safety. Collaborating with department managers, Chief Askoty actively contributed to PRFN’s burn plan initiatives, showcasing her dedication to the well-being of the Nation.
Chief Askoty’s love for the Elders, the Nation, and its members is evident in her tireless efforts to enhance communication and preserve the rich history of Prophet River. Initiating new programs and fostering a sense of community, she has particularly focused on the well-being of the Elders. From championing health and wellness initiatives to organizing AA Meetings, regular sporting events, Elders’ trips, and more. She is also active in external roles serving at the board level and attending numerous conferences, including a recent trip to Harvard!
Chief Askoty currently sits on the NENAN Board, the Sikanni Ranch Board, T8TA Board, School District no. 81 Board, The Clayton Askoty Memorial Society, & Tse Kwa Heritage Society Board. She is the founder of the Annual Clayton Askoty Memorial Softball Tournament & has obtained a certificate from Harvard Business School Tribal Leadership Program.
Chief Askoty has left an indelible mark on the community, embodying passion, the spirit of service and unity that defines Prophet River First Nation under her leadership.
