Sikanni River Ranch is located within the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area (M-KMA), a vast, unspoiled wilderness of 6.4 million hectares. This incredible natural reserve is one of the largest and most pristine wild spaces in British Columbia, offering untouched landscapes and some of the best opportunities for wildlife viewing, fishing, and backcountry exploration.

Established in 1998, the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area was designed to balance conservation and sustainable land-use practices. Over 25% of the area is designated as provincial parks, while the rest is divided into special management zones and special wild land zones to ensure the area remains protected for generations to come. Spanning from the Northern Rocky Mountains to the Cassiar Mountains, this expansive wilderness area is not only a nature lover’s dream but also an exceptional haven for outdoor recreation.

Sikanni River Ranch is owned and operated by Prophet River First Nation who purchased the property in 2019.

The Prophet River First Nation is an Indigenous community located in the northeastern part of British Columbia, Canada, within the traditional territory of the Dene people. This vibrant and resilient community is situated along the Prophet River, a tributary of the Muskwa River, which flows through the expansive boreal forests and rugged landscapes of the Peace River region.

The Prophet River First Nation is a member of the Dene Zaa' people, whose ancestral lands span across parts of British Columbia, Alberta, and the Northwest Territories. The community, which is part of the larger Treaty 8 area, is deeply rooted in its cultural heritage, which is reflected in the people’s connection to the land, traditional practices, and language.

Historically, the people of Prophet River have relied on the rich natural resources in their territory for sustenance. They have long been hunters, fishers, and gatherers, with a deep understanding of the land and its ecosystems. Getting there..

Head north from Fort St. John on Highway 97 for 195 Kms

Turn left at km sign 270 onto Sikanni Chief Falls Road and follow the Sikanni River Ranch signs for approximately 25 kms.

Cell phone service is limited along this stretch of road, so drive with caution on this narrow, hilly, windy road.

You will reach the orange Muskwa-Kechika Management Area gate. This is the designated parking area, as vehicles are not permitted beyond the gate.

From this point, you must either have prearranged transportation from the ranch or continue your journey by quad or skidoo for the remaining 15 kilometers to reach the ranch.

There is cell phone service at the gate should you need assistance, but no cell service from there till you reach the ranch.

The Muskwa-Kechika Management Area does not allow vehicles past the boundary orange gate so the remaining 15km journey to Sikanni River Ranch is an adventure in itself.

Transportation is available from the gate to the ranch for passengers and gear or navigate the rugged terrain and drive quads or skidoos along the winding road.

Prepare to be mesmerized by the sweeping vistas of towering mountains, serene valleys, and pristine wilderness. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by the warm hospitality of the ranch management team and the inviting charm of the rustic log cabins, offering you a perfect blend of comfort and immersion in nature.
